Why Is This Important?
Tired of tossing, turning and staring at the ceiling at night? Did you know that about one in three adults struggle to sleep due to stress in the UK? Calming down before bed can be crucial for a good night’s sleep. At Sleepeezee, we know that getting a good night’s rest isn’t just about the mattress – it’s how you prepare your mind. Tonight, you will learn how you can finally get that good night’s sleep you deserve.
Simple Ways To Wind Down
So, how would we transition from a chaotic daytime, to a deep relaxation?
At Sleepeezee, we encourage four simple steps:
Avoiding screens –
Firstly, avoid blue light. Put away phones, tablets or TVs at least one hour before bed. Scientifically, blue light can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daytime, keeping racing thoughts active, suppressing melatonin – the essential hormone for sleep that your body needs. Dimming lights is a great change to create a sleepy environment.
Engaging in a calming activity –
Instead of scrolling through screens, choose an activity that can slow your heart rate. Read a calm, relaxing and engaging book that isn’t too overstimulating. Alternatively, try journaling; writing a journal can pour out the pressure from your mind. Pair this with a warm drink, like a caffeine-free herbal tea.
Preparing your body physically –
Did you know that your body temperature naturally needs to drop before sleep? Taking a warm bath before bed will trigger your body temperature to rapidly decrease, mimicking the body’s natural transition into sleep. Practice gentle exercises like yoga or light stretching, which can also release any physical tension you’re holding on to.
Mindful meditation –
Finally, clear the mental clutter. When your mind is drowning in stressful thoughts, practice deep breathing. Try the 4-7-8 technique: breathe in for four seconds, holding for seven and exhaling for 8. Listening to audio meditations can also settle stressful thoughts.
Progress, Not Perfection
You may be thinking “This is too much for me in one night.” If so, take a deep breath. Your bedtime routine doesn’t need to be perfect. Focus on small changes rather than a massive makeover. Maybe tonight, swap ten minutes of doom-scrolling for five minutes of reading, or try the 4-7-8 technique while lying in bed. Experiment and try to find something that feels relaxing for you.
In conclusion, winding down isn’t a luxury – it’s the foundation of a better night’s sleep. By making just one small change at night, you can leave the day’s stress at the bedroom door. So Settle down and go get the calm, simple and enjoyable sleep you deserve!
